Haruharu Wonder Black Rice Bakuchiol Eye Cream 20ml

Sale price£21.99 GBP
Size:

An eye cream built around Bakuchiol at 0.5% — within the concentration range (0.5%–1.0%) recognised as effective in published research. A randomised, double-blind, 12-week trial compared 0.5% bakuchiol against 0.5% retinol and found comparable improvements in wrinkles and pigmentation, with significantly better tolerability¹. The formula also includes fermented Black Rice Extract, Adenosine, and Niacinamide.

Key ingredients

  • Bakuchiol (0.5%) — plant-derived retinol alternative, clinical trial support¹
  • Adenosine — supported by clinical research for fine lines²
  • Niacinamide — supports brightening and barrier function
  • Fermented Black Rice Extract (2,000ppm) — antioxidant

Best suited for

  • Anyone wanting a well-evidenced retinol alternative for the delicate eye area
  • Those who can't tolerate retinoids

Screening summary

Out of the 42 ingredients listed, 38 passed with no comments.  Four flagged: Sunflower seed oil and Usnea Barbata (Lichen) Extract flagged due to being botanical sensitisers.  Wheat Amino Acids flagged as it contains wheat.

Disodium EDTA flagged for environmental reasons as it resists biodegradation in surface water once metal-bound.

A patch test is recommended before first use.

DOI: 10.1111/bjd.16918. 44 participants applied bakuchiol 0.5% twice daily or retinol 0.5% once daily for 12 weeks — both showed significant, comparable reductions in wrinkles and hyperpigmentation, with retinol users reporting more scaling and stinging. The trial assessed general facial photoaging rather than the eye area specifically.
² Abella ML. "Evaluation of anti-wrinkle efficacy of adenosine-containing products using the FOITS technique." Int J Cosmet Sci. 2006;28(6). A blind, randomised, placebo-controlled trial with 126 women aged 45–65 found a significant, measurable reduction in periorbital and glabellar line roughness after 3 weeks of twice-daily use, confirmed at 2 months.  Adenosine-containing cream also significantly improved glabellar frowns. This study demonstrates the potential beneficial effects of adenosine-containing products on crow's feet and glabellar facial wrinkles.
